Today marks the beginning of your journey into the restricted Upper Mustang region and the ancient Kingdom of Lo.

After breakfast in Jomsom, we follow the legendary Kali Gandaki Valley toward Kagbeni, one of the oldest and most culturally significant villages in Mustang. Located at the meeting point of the Kali Gandaki and Jhong Rivers, Kagbeni has served as an important trading settlement on the historic Nepal–Tibet salt trade route for centuries.

The village is famous for its narrow stone-paved alleys, traditional mud-brick houses, Buddhist monasteries, prayer wheels, and ancient architecture. Walking through Kagbeni feels like entering a different era where Himalayan traditions remain deeply connected with daily life.

One of the highlights of today's journey is crossing Taklam La Pass (3,624m) and Dajori La Pass (3,735m). From these viewpoints, you can enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges, including Nilgiri, Tilicho Peak, and Annapurna peaks in the distance.

Instead of simply returning the same way, we explore some of Mustang's hidden treasures, including Lo Gekar Monastery (Ghar Gompa), believed to be one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in Nepal. The monastery is associated with Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche), the great master credited with spreading Vajrayana Buddhism across the Himalayan region.
