why meditate

“Both Harvard Business School and leading European business schools, INSEAD-Paris, and numerous other colleges, have concluded from research that the two most effective business tools for 21st century executives are meditation and intuition."

Do Less Achieve More- Chin-Ning Chu

Does meditation mean relaxing? Or, does it mean sitting quietly trying to focus on something? Does meditation mean lighting a candle listening to someone give a lecture? What is it? If while reading this you are perfectly aware of your surroundings and are concentrating and contemplating on these lines without any hurry or judgment, you are meditating.

In other words, if you are aware of your surroundings and can focus all of your attention in the present moment, you are meditating.  At  one time, Meditation was restricted to a much more personal level of spiritual search. However, companies are now realizing the benefits Meditation offers in the corporate world as well.  Managers and entrepreneurs agree that they realize the viability of a business plan or idea more quickly, what some call the gut instinct, or intuition. Essentially, your body tells you what feels right and what does not. So, what is the purpose of meditation here? Research suggests people who meditate are more in touch with their being and trust their nature to make good decisions in general. Obviously,  people are more productive when they are happy and content at what they are doing.

According to notable organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, the University of Massachusetts, and the Mind/Body Medical Institute at Harvard University, meditation increases brain-wave activity, enhances intuition, and improves concentration. Several studies have demonstrated that individuals who meditated for just a short time showed increased alpha waves, with decreased anxiety and depression.

Clearly, meditation offers tremendous personal advantages, but what is the return on investment of meditation for organizations?

  • Reduced absenteeism;
  • Decreased drug and alcohol abuse;
  • Improved camaraderie and cooperation among co-workers;
  • Increased employee job satisfaction;
  • Less stressed, more relaxed work environment;
  • Greater creativity and improved productivity.
  • Improvement in personal life.

    Benefits for the individual.

  • Better Partners
  • A more relaxed attitude towards life and things in general.
  • Meditation improves Sexual prowess.
  • People who meditate make better Parents
  • High Self Esteem
  • More Tolerant towards other views and ideas in general.
  • Improved concentration and focus.
  • More closeness with their real self

Regardless of what anyone says, never doubt that the answers to your questions lie within. And only you have the keys to unlock your destiny.  It’s just a matter of whether you are brave enough to be silent and listen to your being. It happens when happens. If you seek, you shall definitely find... YOURSELF.
